India’s first National Skill Development Policy was formulated only in 2009 and in the last seven years, nation has witnessed much progress than what other international skills markets have done perhaps in more than a century. The National Policy for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship 2015 supersedes the policy of 2009 with the objective of skilling at scale with speed, standard and sustainability. India aims to skill 400 million people by 2022, with this, FICCI’s Skill Development Committee felt that it is time to gear up for the futuristic jobs that would be carved out of Automation, Manufacturing 4.0 and Migration which are some of the disruptive drivers that are transforming and changing the job market dramatically. It is imperative that that we equip our youth with life skills that are adaptable to the rapidly evolving 21st century society. Therefore, the 9th edition of Global Skills Summit’s theme- Skilling for the Future, aims to take a deeper look at the present skill eco-system, map them against the future trends, identify future jobs & skill requirements and propose a way to re-engineer the skill ecosystem to make required course corrections.
